With minimal forward propulsion, AquaJogging is not really suited for competitive racing.

That reasoning didn't stop thousands of people from converging on a lake in Finland for the "AquaJogging World Championship".

If anything, some of the outfits are worth a chuckle.

    Run for your Life!
This month we would like to feature the story of one courageous individual, Terry Nelson, and his will to overcome adversity.

His story emphasizes the life-saving properties of water exercise and has inspired all of us at AquaJogger®. We hope that Terry's story will be an inspiration to you as well. Happy reading!

(The following letter was originally addressed to Juliana Larson, master instructor.)

    Dear Juliana,

I live in England and am a 42-year-old male. I am currently studying to become AEA certified which I can take later this year in England.

My background is in athletics and I also played Pro Soccer, but I became very ill with kidney failure in 1986.

I was on dialysis for two years before having a kidney transplant in 1988.

I was determined to make full use of my second chance at life and won many Gold medals for distance running at the British Transplant Games. I later ran for my country at the World Transplant Games in Vancouver in July 1993 and won Gold in the 5000m.

I won two more Golds at 5k and 1500m at the British Games in August of '93 but then my transplant failed and was forced to resume kidney dialysis again.

My doctors said I had to stop running because I was very weak and developed severe joint and bone problems due to my daily dialysis regime.

I decided to take up running in water with my AquaJogger which I had used 3 months before becoming World Champion as I had broken a bone in my foot and the aqua running kept me fit until it healed after 6 weeks in the water.

I continued my aquarunning almost daily for the next 11 years until I had my second transplant 10 months ago.

My aquarunning kept me alive for so long on dialysis as it became my only escape and my therapy.

Aquarunning also helped my legs to recover enough to discard my wheelchair after three years. When I had my second transplant I wanted to take my experience of Aquarunning while ill further.

I ordered all of AquaJogger's resistance equipment, your book and video plus David Brennan's, and was so inspired and impressed by your work.

I also have a great affinity with what you said in “Water Dance” (Paper Chase Press, 1999).

I would love to come to one of your trainings in New Mexico, as I understand the wonderful therapeutic effects of water and want to learn as much as I can to take back to England and help and inspire others to feel as well as I do now in my new wonderful life.

I am very keen to come to America as I have lots of ideas and plans for helping others in my country to benefit from the wonderful benefits of water fitness.

I look forward to hearing from you very soon, and I thank you for taking the time to read my e-mail.

    Kind regards,
    Terry Nelson
