Beat the Heat with Cool Pool Games

With so much focus on weight loss and fitness these days, it is important to remember the lighter side of active living -- play. Water games are a great way to stay active, compete with friends, spend time with family, and have fun.

This month we focus on some fun pool games that the whole family can enjoy.

    Deep Water Basketball, Volleyball, Polo
    Team Sports

Deep water is the great equalizer when it comes to sports, because height, jumping ability, and speed are taken out of the equation. When you are in deep water with an AquaJogger® buoyancy belt you are free to play any sport without worrying about treading water to stay afloat. All you need is a net, hoop, or just a ball. In fact, deep water sports are becoming so popular that a class may be offered in health clubs your area.

    Snorkeling and Floating
    Relaxation

The AquaJogger® is a great tool for fitness and weight loss, but did you know you can also use it to melt your stress away? The AquaJogger® design is perfect for snorkeling in your favorite pool or coral reef. With a little extra buoyancy, you can remain suspended on the water's surface while you check out life underneath the waves. Tip: When snorkeling wear the large foam piece on your stomach and buckle in the back to maximize flotation.

    Marco Polo
A classic game known the world over

Someone is picked to be Marco Polo the explorer. The explorer is blindfolded (or closes eyes) and tries to tag others by shouting "Marco." The other players shout "Polo" in response; the explorer finds the other players by listening. When the explorer tags another player, that player becomes "Marco." Make the game more fun in deep water with the AquaJogger® Jr.-- sure to become a children's favorite.

    Sharks and Minnows
An active game for the kid in all of us

One child volunteers to be a Shark in the center of the pool while the rest of the children become "Minnows" and line up on one side. At the Shark's command of "1-2-3 Minnows," the minnows attempt to swim across the pool without getting tagged by the Shark. As the minnows get tagged they become the sharks and join in catching people for the following rounds. Continue until the last person is tagged and declared the winner.

A Note to Parents: The AquaJogger® Jr. is a great teaching tool for specific skills and activities as well as a confidence builder for new swimmers. It can also be effective for developing your child's comfort level in and around the water, while increasing his or her readiness for learning to swim.

The AquaJogger® Jr. is NOT a substitute for your child's flotation ability when swimming, and should be used as a complement rather than a substitute for good teaching and learning activities. The AquaJogger® Jr. is not a life preserver, and it is important to maintain constant supervision.

Join your kids in the pool and discover how the water can bring out the "Kid" in all of us.
